ICE activity has increased, and many people are scared or unsure what to do. Knowing your rights helps prevent mistakes made under fear- like opening the door, talking too much, or signing something harmful. These protections apply to everyone, regardless of immigration status. Being prepared protects you, your family, and your community during uncertain times

  • You have the right to remain silent. You do not have to answer questions about your immigration status.
  • Do NOT open the door unless ICE shows a judicial warrant signed by a judge. ICE’s own forms are not enough.
  • Stay calm. Don’t run, argue, or resist. Keep your hands visible.
  • Don’t sign anything without speaking to a lawyer.
  • Don’t lie or give false documents.
  • If stopped while driving, ask whether the officer is from local police or immigration.
  • Prepare a family plan: memorize important phone numbers, keep documents safe, and decide who will care for children if someone is detained.
  • Use the ICE detainee locator if a loved one is taken.
