On Saturday afternoon, Augsburg University in Minneapolis reported a disturbing encounter involving agents believed to be from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). According to the university, multiple unmarked vehicles arrived on campus around 4 p.m., targeting one undergraduate student.
However, the situation quickly escalated when agents confronted several students and staff who were nearby. University officials say the agents’ actions were “unacceptable, dangerous, and profoundly disturbing”. Witnesses reported that weapons were pointed at bystanders- including Augsburg employees and students who were not involved in the incident.
Others watched the scene unfold from residence hall windows. Video shared with local media shows what appear to be ICE agents in plain clothes and several unmarked cars positioned near a residence hall parking lot. Augsburg University stated that they are deeply concerned about the safety and well-being of their community and are seeking more information about the incident.
